Walk for Parkinson’s 2

On Saturday 11 May, my father and I went on another 5.5 mile sponsored walk at the Blickling Estate, Norfolk, in aid of Parkinson’s UK. We did the same walk last year and I wrote about it a year ago. My dad, Barry, who is just about to turn 74 years of age, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in December 2011. On this occasion we were joined by my sister-in-law, Kirsty, and my ten year-old niece, Lily. As the charity states:

“Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson’s. Because we’re here, no one has to face Parkinson’s alone. We offer friendship, support, expert information and advice. We also fund ground breaking research into Parkinson’s and we’re leading the way to find a cure.”

By Sunday night, we had raised at least £423 in total. £268 of it was donated online through this page or offline through friends and family. My sister-in-law and niece raised another £155 or so.

Walk for Parkinson’s happens all over the UK. We were fortunate once again that the weather was good on the day. It started a little damp, with some rain overnight, but brightened up later and ended in glorious sunshine. Just as I did last year, I made a video of the walk and put it to the tune, ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers. This time my niece helped me the choice of shots used. You can watch it below or on YouTube.
